Industry, Istat: turnover in June + 3.1% thanks to the foreign market

In June it is estimated that the turnover of the industry, net of seasonal factors, registers a cyclical increase of 3.1%, resulting from growth in both markets (+ 4.7% in the foreign market and + 2.1% in the indoor). In the second quarter the overall index shows an increase of 5.2% compared to the previous three months (+ 5.5% on the domestic market and + 4.8% on the foreign market). Istat notes it. With reference to the main groupings of industries, in June the seasonally adjusted indices of the turnover show cyclical increases for all the main sectors: energy (+ 6.0%), intermediate goods (+ 5.0%), consumer goods (+ 2.6%), capital goods (+ 0.3%). Adjusted for calendar effects (there were 21 working days as in June 2020), the total turnover grows in trend terms by 28.4% (+ 30.2% on the foreign market and + 27.5% on the domestic market) .

As regards the indexes corrected for calendar effects referring to the main groupings of industries, there are marked trend increases for all sectors: + 54.3% energy, + 35.4% intermediate goods, +31.0 % capital goods and + 14.1% consumer goods (+26.4 non-durable goods and +11.6 durable goods). n With reference to the manufacturing sector, there are trend increases for all sectors of economic activity, with the exception of the pharmaceutical industry with an almost zero change (-0.1%).

Coldiretti: “boom in food exports”
The increase in industrial turnover is driven by the historical record set for Made in Italy food exports which recorded an increase of + 23.1% in June for an estimated annual value of 50 billion in 2021. This is what emerges from the analysis of Coldiretti on Istat data that highlight the growth in industrial turnover on the eve of the Cibus in Parma. With the advancement of the vaccination campaign, the reopening of catering activities and holidays – underlines Coldiretti – the demand for Made in Italy at the table in Italy and in the world is growing with the food turnover that marks a jump of 11 in June, 1% and with large international fairs which represent a strategic element for making Italian institutions, stakeholders and market operators known and appreciated. Among the main customers of the Made in Italy at the table in the first half of the year there are the United States which are in second place but record the greatest increase in demand with a jump of 18.4%, a positive trend also in Germany which ranks first among the Italian food importing countries with an increase of 6.8%, practically the same as France (+ 6.7%) which is in third place while in fourth place Great Britain where due to Brexit , with the burden of administrative burdens, food exports fell instead of 4.6%. Among the other markets – highlights Coldiretti – there was a 16.5% growth in the Russian one and a real leap forward in the Chinese one with + 57.7%
