Internal criticism at VW: “Customers burdened with unfinished vehicles”

Is Volkswagen’s business model outdated? Passenger car boss Thomas Schäfer is calling for significant changes internally at the world‘s second largest car manufacturer. picture alliance/dpa/Marcus Brandt

At Volkswagen Passenger Cars, CEO Thomas Schäfer is pushing his teams to achieve significantly higher speeds and be more cost-conscious. “We have to become faster, we need shorter product life cycles, and we have to bring vehicles onto the market more cheaply,” the car manager recently demanded internally.

“The competition will show us what prices we can achieve,” Schäfer added to employees of the Wolfsburg volume brand. The background to his warning words is primarily the rapid emergence of new competitors from China. The manager spoke plainly on “Let’s talk” with VW in-house presenter Jesko Giessen. Business Insider recently reported exclusively on parts of the confidential information format. And Schäfer didn’t skimp on harsh criticism.
