Abi Presidency, Intesa wants Francesco Profumo

Intesa Sanpaolo moves on the presidency of the ABI. Repubblica writes this today, according to which “the indication of the former head of Compagnia Sanpaolo, Francesco Profumo, to the representation of Italian bankers could arrive within a month; or as plan B to that of the president of the bank, Gian Maria Gros-Pietro “.

Repubblica explains that “the largest Italian bank, which did not want to comment on the scenario that follows and enlists almost a third of Italian bankers, revoked, a year ago, the delegation to the Trade Union Affairs Committee (Casl)”, but now “Messina would like to leverage the good relationships and common interests with Andrea Orcel, head of Unicredit. The two largest banks together are worth over 100 billion, and in 2023 they will have over 16 billion in profits. Unicredit could support an Intesa-branded Abi presidency: also because, in the past, the association’s top management has always been assigned by rotating between the large banks and the small ones”.

Again according to Repubblica, “sIt is said that Profumo resigned early in order to be a candidate for the presidency of Intesa Sanpaolo, to the vote of the members in a year (nor could he be appointed earlier, given the constraints of the Acri-Mef protocol). Profumo, however, would not be incompatible with a forthcoming appointment to the ABI”. But a change to the statute would be needed.
