In March 2022, exports to non-EU countries confirmed their increase on a monthly basis, driven in particular by the sales of non-durable and instrumental consumer goods. According to Istat, according to the average of the first quarter of the year, the economic trend is largely positive. On an annual basis, export growth accelerates further (+ 22.1%, it was + 21.1% in February) and is explained for over a third by higher sales of non-durable consumer goods. Purchases of energy products – especially from Russia and OPEC countries – contribute by 36 percentage points to the marked trend increase in Italian imports from non-EU countries. The energy deficit widens considerably but the balance in the trade of non-energy products is largely positive and with a limited increase compared to a previous year.
