Ita halves Alitalia payslips for its employees

by admin

First day of recruitment yesterday for Ita – Italy Air Transport -, which begins to recruit 1,500 employees for its fleet. However, working for the new company will not be as convenient as before: pilots and flight attendants will have half the salaries received in the pay slip, compared to those received by former Alitalia employees.

The data provided by Ita itself, through the “Company Regulations applicable to the employees of Italia Transport Air Spa” sent to the unions, reveal how the cut arrives in many cases, and sometimes even exceeds, 50% of the amounts previously paid by the old company .

As early as August, Ita had declared that it would not apply the national collective agreement to its employees. «It is paradoxical – Fabrizio Cuscito, secretary of Filt Cgil, commented – that a similar choice is made by a 100% public company. It is serious that Ita, with this move, goes against the rules of the Relaunch decree. He wants to have his hands free “

The Regulations made public by the new company, chaired by Alfredo Altavilla, therefore replace the collective agreement. But the points of conflict with the unions are already many, given that the cut does not affect only wages: holidays are also reduced, with 19 days of rest per year, of which only 6 in the May-September period. To the protests of the unions, Altavilla replies that the cuts are necessary to make the costs of the new company competitive, controlled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and that therefore the employee will have to settle for a weakened and flexible contract, suitable for a pandemic. However, Ita has ensured that the treatments provided for in the regulation are “in compliance with the minimums provided for by the national collective bargaining agreement for the sector, which ITA immediately made available to apply under sustainable conditions, or that it represented the companies in the sector and maintained unity of the trade unions “.

The first take-off is set for October 15: before then, precisely by September 23, the company will have to provide the complete list of personnel who will fly on the first fleet of aircraft. There are 52 in all and are currently coming from Alitalia aircraft, waiting to replace them with other jets arriving next year. The hiring of new sailors has therefore already begun, and envisages the recruitment of 1500 new employees out of the total of the 2800 expected. A number far fewer than Alitalia’s 7700, none of which will board the new company.

Payroll data

The cuts are clear and clear, and affect all categories of employees to a greater or lesser extent. If an Alitalia commander received approximately 12,534 euros for 60 hours of flight per month, that of Ita receives exactly half of it, 6,217 euros gross.

Even lighter is the paycheck of a pilot who, always with an average activity of 60 hours a month, will see 3,598 euros delivered gross, or 55% less than the 8,027 euros previously earned by an Alitalia pilot with the same flight hours .

The salary of flight attendants is reduced in percentage terms, but it was already the lowest. Hostesses and stewards, with an average of 60 flight hours per month, would earn 1,680 euros gross, compared to 2,582 euros for Alitalia. This is 35% less each month in paychecks.

With these numbers, Ita ranks in the last places for salaries recognized to employees, making a comparison between the most established companies on the market: an Ita commander will earn 48% less than an easyJet colleague, who takes home 12,000 euros gross monthly , and 37% less than the 11,500 euros of a Ryanair commander. Even more merciless is the comparison with other industry giants such as Air France or Lufthansa, whose captains receive respectively 15,000 euros gross per month, over 58% more than Ita, and 13,500 euros gross, 54% more. Even the commanders of freight and mail transport, such as Poste Air Cargo, earn better: 9,900 euros gross per month, with a difference of 37% on Ita.

Comparisons are made on the basis of simulations and take into account an average of 60 flying hours per month. There are therefore margins of fluctuation, both in the case of reaching the maximum limit of 90 flight hours per month, and taking into account any increases due to seniority.
