Ita is the new Alitalia: “It’s a startup. The planes will be blue”

by admin

ROMA – Ita bought the brand yesterday Alitalia. Yet the company changes its name anyway. At the press conference, the CEO Fabio Lazzerini presents the new brand and the name of the airline which will be called Ita Airways. The site will also be named as follows: www.itaairways.com.

The planes will be completely different. The Airbuses, arriving from 2022, will be completely blue in the cockpit, with a nod to the sporting successes of Italian athletes. The tricolor will be on the tail.

The CEO of the new carrier explains: “We want to convey a feeling of freshness and flexibility. We are one startup. We look back on an important past “, the colors of the brand recall those of Alitalia,” but above all we look to the future “.

The manager thus justifies the acquisition of the Alitalia brand, cost 90 million, yet essentially unused at the time: “It was a heritage that had to be preserved anyway. We want to manage the process on its use”.

The executive chairman Alfredo Altavilla adds that the Alitalia brand is bought for marketing reasons (“initiatives will be possible in the future”), out of respect for the people who have given their souls for the now extinct carrier and because the purchase is part of a “system operation “. Somehow, the old Alitalia will now be in a position to continue the commissioner management.

At the same time, Ita Airways will have time to place its brand everywhere (aircrafts, waiting rooms, hangars, cars and service buses) in a slower way: “Doing it quickly would have involved some extra-costs“.

Canceled flights, Alitalia: “We will refund”. But the cash on hand may not be enough

“I am a mountaineer – continues Lazzerini – and this time they made us take the most tiring and uphill path. From EU Commission“- which imposed a discontinuity between the old company and the new one -” we have received many branches “. The CEO refers to the conditions that Brussels has imposed on the new carrier:” For example, we must use 100% of our slots ” Basically, Ita Airways is required to make full use of take-off and landing rights at airports.

In the meantime, a new mechanism, renamed Volare, will replace the Millemiglia program, which is out of the game. The company will soon have a homogeneous fleet, made only of Airbus. Soon, the carrier will focus on intercontinental flights because they are more profitable. There will be on board four different classes: business, premium, comfort and economic.

Lazzerini again: “In 2019, even before the pandemic, the Italians were underserved. They did not have enough flights, especially the international ones. Now our airline will remedy this void. “

The route Rome-Milan Linate, which remains important, will be covered in a different way than in the past. Lazzerini explains: “Once there were 23 planes that went and 23 that returned. Perhaps too many. We will look above all to business customers, concentrating flights in certain segments that are functional to the needs of business men”.

THE REGULATION FOR RECRUITMENT (SALARY)

Says the executive president Alfredo Altavilla: “Our shareholders are the Italians. We have to prove to them that we will not throw public money. Ita Airways can be profitable because it is born with the right industrial dimensions, as an airline fleet and as employees. A Spanish company, Volotea, has been awarded the connections to and from Sardinia with reductions in the offer to the Region of as much as 42%. Good for them who manage to make money anyway “. Against Volotea’s victory in the contract, Ita confirms the appeal to the TAR.

“I got pushed from all sides of politics. They call you and suggest: you should fly to this airport. We have managed to free ourselves from any pressure, we only respond to taxpayers. “As proof of this, Altavilla reveals that the purchase of the branch aviation from Alitalia it cost one euro. “Obviously it is worth more, but the branch brought with it significant costs”.

Alfredo Altavilla

“The reduced salaries to employees? A part of the remuneration is linked to the profitability of the company and the satisfaction of travelers. I refer to any salary, starting with mine. “In any case, Altavilla is confident in an agreement with the trade unions, who contest the non-application of the national contract for the sector:” There are steps forward. I hope for an agreement: I don’t know what it will be called, whether a national or supplementary company contract “.

Altavilla looks to possible commercial and industrial partners. But he dictates the conditions, which Ita Airways will enforce (while Alitalia has not succeeded): “We will defend the centrality of our hubs, Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino. We cannot simply bring water to the mill of others “.
