Japan: Retail Sales + 3.1%, better than monthly estimates

In May, Japan’s retail sales rose 3.1% on a monthly basis, better than the + 2.7% growth expected and a marked improvement on the previous decline of -0.4%.

On an annual basis, the trend was an increase of 0.1%, less than the + 0.2% estimated and in sharp slowdown compared to + 8.3% in April (data conditioned by the base effect linked to the Covid-19 pandemic ).
