The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is presented online in the five-seater version. After the debut of the seven-seater L model, the unprecedented American SUV unveils a long list of innovations starting with the introduction of the 4xe plug-in hybrid version. Based on a new architecture, the fifth generation of the Grand Cherokee says goodbye to diesel engines but receives a long package of innovations in terms of style, perceived quality, technology, safety and equipment dedicated to off-road driving. All aiming at the goal of “Zero Emission Freedom”, as demonstrated by the arrival of the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4xe capable of covering the demanding Rubicon Trail in full electric mode.
New Jeep Grand Cherokee, size and style
Thanks to the flexibility of the new architecture, the new Grand Cherokee is offered in two configurations with different length and wheelbase and in the electrified version. While the two-row Grand Cherokee and three-row Grand Cherokee L have the same overall width of 215cm, the two-row Grand Cherokee features a wheelbase of 296.4cm, which is 12.7cm shorter. compared to that of the Grand Cherokee L (equal to 309 cm). With an overall length of 491cm, the two-row version is 11 ” shorter than the 520.4cm of the Grand Cherokee L. The dimensions of the fifth generation models have been optimized to ensure Jeep’s off-road capabilities and enable electrification with the 4xe system. In terms of style, the wider seven-slot grille, the Active Grille Shutters system, the front fenders, the air intakes, the aerodynamic profile of the bonnet, the lowered roof line (by 10 mm) and the rear spoilers on the pillar vertical improve performance on the road and reduce fuel consumption. The glossy black roof is available for the first time on the Overland model and is standard on the Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve versions. The track is 36 mm wider for greater handling and agility. Finally, up to eight different tires are available for the first time with the characteristic Jeep tread pattern and 21-inch wheels.

Climbing aboard the new Jeep Grand Cherokee you are greeted by a completely new interior, profoundly improved in terms of materials and technological equipment. The front fascia features new, thinner air conditioning vents, a new center console and 10.1-inch digital displays (i.e. digital instrument cluster and touchscreen radio), as well as a unique 10.25-inch interactive display for the front passenger and a new high-definition entertainment system for rear seat passengers with FireTV. Available on the Grand Cherokee Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve versions, the 4xe propulsion system combines two electric motors, a 400-volt battery pack, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine and a TorqueFlite automatic transmission. eight gears to ensure high performance and maximum efficiency. A first water-cooled high-voltage motor generator is placed on the front of the engine, replacing the traditional alternator. It is connected through a sturdy belt to the crankshaft pulley and in addition to powering the combustion engine and managing the operation of the start-stop system, at the same time it generates the electricity to be conveyed into the battery pack. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is equipped with a 400 volt, 17 kWh battery pack. It is located together with the control devices in the lower part of the vehicle, securely packed under the floor thanks to a series of protective plates. The engine range also includes the 293hp 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar and the 357hp 5.7 V8.

In terms of off-road capabilities, there are three 4×4 systems (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II) and Jeep Quadra-Lift air suspension now with semi-active electronic damping capable of guaranteeing 28.7 cm of height from the ground and 61 cm of wading capacity. Added to this is the new stabilizer bar disconnection system, exclusive in the category, which guarantees better articulation and traction on rocks and rough terrain. The Selec-Terrain system allows you to choose between five different driving modes (Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, Mud / Sand) the one most suited to tackling a particular type of terrain. The list of innovations continues with over 110 advanced active and passive safety systems, including Active Driving Assist for level 2 autonomous driving. The trim levels will be Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve, the latter featuring premium features such as Palermo leather interiors and 950 watt McIntosh sound system and 19 speakers.
