Stellantis intends to give new life to the Lancia brand, as confirmed several times by the CEO Carlos Tavares. Which, in an attempt to give the historic Italian brand a chance for long-term survival through a focus on design, electrification and an international expansion beyond Italy – where it has been present with a single model since 2017 – last June 15 entrusted to the new head of design Jean-Pierre Ploué the task of quickly designing a new range of models.
According to rumors gathered by the European edition of Automotive News, within the next five years Lancia will present three new models: an economy car, a compact crossover and a compact sedan. The compact that will replace the Ypsilon will be the first to be launched in mid-2024, and will be the first fully electric model in Lancia’s 115-year history. A petrol variant will also be proposed. The second model, a compact crossover, is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2026 and will run on battery power only. While the city car and compact crossover designs have been formally approved for development, the compact sedan has not yet received formal approval. In fact, Lancia is still considering whether there could be sufficient volumes for a hatchback that will reach the market by the end of 2027.
