Mbda strengthens in the South: order for Camm-Er missiles in Fusaro

by admin

Mbda, the company specialized in the construction of missiles and parts of missiles, is strengthened in the South. The most substantial part of the “Camm-Er” (extended range) program will be implemented in the Fusaro plant in Bacoli, in the province of Naples result of the collaboration between the Italian and English Governments, which provides for the development and then the construction of the new missile that will replace the “Aspide” in the air defense systems of the Italian Air Force and the Italian Army.

Camm-Er Industrial Program

The first part of the order, the one that aims at the development of the new systems, has a value of one hundred million; this will then be followed by that for actual production which may be worth “a few hundred million, for a three-digit number of missiles”. So said the managing director of MBDA Italy, Lorenzo Mariani, in a meeting in the Fusaro plant. The program will have important industrial and employment implications. The Camm-er order will give work to Mbda Italia until 2025 “with a significant share for the Fusaro plant,” Mariani specified. Series production will begin in 2022.

Mbda is growing despite the pandemic

MBDA Italia, a missile joint venture controlled by Airbus (37.5%), BAE System (37.5%), and Leonardo (25%) even in the most critical phase of the pandemic, has increased employment, with higher average growth to 10% of the total number of employees (+5.7 in the Fusaro plant, which has 450 employees). The one on Lake Fusaro is an important research, design, development and production facility, with areas of excellence such as RF technologies and equipment, ceramic radomes, AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Arrey) seekers, modules & sub-systems and test equipment. The site is practically unique in Europe in the technological capabilities related to ceramic processing, for the construction of radomes.
