Mercedes closes 2021 with excellent results on the electrification front. With 8,412 plug-in hybrid (Phev) cars and a market share of over 12%, Mercedes-Benz is the European brand that registered the largest number of plug-in cars in Italy in 2021. A result that, added to the 7,954 full electric units of Mercedes-EQ and smart, brings to 16,367 the number of cars with plugs sold by Mercedes-Benz in Italy in 2021: 30% of the total registrations.

Mercedes Phev, registrations and models

In the Phev market, the numbers reward an extremely rich and diversified offer, distributed across all segments, from the A Class to the large SUVs, which saw the GLE 350 de protagonist which, although positioned in the highest part of the market without incentives, with 2,655 units registered between SUVs (1,647 units) and Coupé (1,008) it alone represents 3.9% of the entire Phev market in Italy. Over 16,000 Italians bought a car with a plug in 2021 – underlined Radek Jelinek, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Italy – choosing between the Mercedes range and the smart offer. An important number that represents 30% of our total sales and makes our commitment to the ecological transition even more evident and a trend that points in the right direction. At the same time, we are concerned about the current absence of measures to ensure consistent continuity to this trend. For this reason, we hope that the government will continue to maintain its commitment to incentivize the purchase of cars with a low environmental impact, allowing you to get out of that state of uncertainty that slows down purchases and makes correct industrial and commercial planning extremely complex. ”
