Milan, the No Green Pass parades cost 10.2 million to shops and clubs

by admin

The controversy had already been raised in recent days: beyond what you think, the reiteration, every Saturday afternoon, of the No Green Pass processions in Milan begins to make itself felt on the coffers of the city’s merchants, already severely affected by the pandemic

Now Confcommercio has quantified the extent of the damage, starting from a survey among its members: 10.2 million euros only for Corso Buenos Aires, the street most affected by the parades, and the downtown area: a loss of 27% (on 37.7 million euros of turnover). This is the bill, in a limited area, paid in the last three Saturdays in Milan by shops, bars and restaurants during the hours involved in the No Green pass events.

Non-food stores most damaged

The loss of 27% coincides with the assessment expressed by companies in the survey carried out by the Milanese Confcommercio on the Green pass and protests (responses from 613 companies): the average decrease in turnover indicated by entrepreneurs (32% is directly involved in the marches) is 27.4%. Higher for non-food shops: 30%.

“Over 10 million euros lost in three Saturdays of protests in a limited area. A budget that could be much heavier if this chaos situation continues with a significant impact on the attractiveness of the city. In fact, who would be tempted to go to Milan – observes Marco Barbieri, general secretary of Confcommercio Milan – knowing they will find confusion and inconvenience due to more or less authorized processions? The economic damage risks seriously worsening with the approach of the Christmas period ».

Green Pass-friendly merchants

In the Confcommercio Milano survey 70% are in favor of the Green Pass requirement in the workplace. 73% did not find any critical issues related to the control of the Green Pass. 71% are still affected by the damage suffered as a result of the Covid emergency. In particular in catering: 86%. 68% of companies believe that the anti-Green Pass protests cannot be shared. And 16% ask for defined paths and greater control of the police.
