In the Serie “My Money, Your Money” tells people what role money plays in their relationships. And how they regulate their shared finances. Today: Karla, 58 years old.

My grandmother used to turn her purse over the table every evening and count her money. When I got into a relationship for the third time, it was probably because my husband does the same thing. It is very important to me to know how my partner deals with money and whether that fits with how I deal with it. This was a major contentious issue in my two previous relationships. My first partner was a banker and planned everything financially, including family planning. That was very limiting for me. In contrast, the second partner was in debt, and I couldn’t compensate for that even with my thrifty behavior. That’s why the third time I thought carefully about what I was getting myself into.
