More revenues for Citterio as it accelerates towards sustainability with the “For Our Planet” plan

Rising accounts for Salumificio Citterio, which accelerates towards sustainability: 2021 turnover reaches 510 million compared to 500 the previous year. The “Citterio For Our Planet” plan is underway to which 5% of annual revenues, approximately 25 million, are allocated to modernize, expand and upgrade the nine production sites in Italy and the two plants in the USA, to increase efficiency and respect for the environment. This strategy also aims to reduce plastic, improve animal welfare and strengthen ethical and social commitment. By the end of the year, the use of plastic in the fresh cut line packaging will be further reduced by a fifth, thanks to an innovative and functional design. However, Citterio’s attention to the issue of sustainability is not only present in the packaging of the products, but directly involves the factories.

An example is the plant in Santo Stefano Ticino (Mi) where over 4,000 photovoltaic panels have been installed, on an area of about 20 thousand square meters, capable of producing about 1 million kwh / year which allow to reduce CO2 emissions by 600 tons. . An in-depth study of the production processes then made it possible to adopt components capable of not dispersing over 600 thousand cubic meters of water and through the installation of high-performance condensing boilers to save 270 thousand cubic meters of methane every year. “For over 10 years we have started a path to make every aspect of our reality closer to the environment and to give consumers an increasingly green choice at 360 °, which starts from the company and reaches the product – they let you know from agency -. What we are doing is only a first step aimed at developing more and more sustainable solutions, trying to reduce the environmental impact more and more, now indispensable and necessary actions for a company like ours that has always been devoted to the theme of sustainability and efficiency. energetic. The reduction of a further 20% of the use of plastic in the packaging of our Fresh Cut line is therefore an important goal that we aim to achieve by the end of 2022 ». Furthermore, in order to favor circular economy solutions, in the Felino (Pr) Citterio plant it has also installed a cogeneration plant powered by raw ham processing waste that produces electrical and thermal energy while a cogeneration plant has been installed in Santo Stefano Ticino. methane which avoids the emission of about 2 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
