Mozzarella Dop, the packaging is increasingly green

by admin

The sector of buffalo mozzarella from Campania PDO is increasingly green: two out of three mozzarellas arrive on tables all over the world packaged in environmentally friendly secondary packaging. The data emerges from a statistical survey by the Consortium for the Protection of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana Dop on a representative sample of members. Of the total production of about 50 million kilos, almost 32 million kilos travel in sustainable packaging, especially paper and cardboard, instead of polystyrene.

A growing trend since 2015, which testifies to the commitment and sensitivity on the subject by the producers of buffalo mozzarella from Campania PDO and which outlines a future that is increasingly respectful of the ecosystem for the supply chain.

“The Consortium’s commitment is to support even more modernization processes that further reduce the impact of the supply chain on the environment, sharing the objectives relaunched in the FAO pre-summit, just concluded in Rome, to transform global food systems into sustainable perspective for climate and environment », comments the director of the Protection Consortium, Pier Maria Saccani.

A priority theme, which will be the subject of work and study also by the Scientific Committee of the Consortium, chaired by the rector of the Federico II University of Naples, Matteo Lorito, and composed of the former minister Luigi Nicolais and the professor of the University of Parma, Germano Mucchetti.
