On May 10, local time, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that if the acquisition of Twitter is completed, he will revoke Twitter’s permanent ban on former US President Trump. Musk said Twitter’s ban on Trump’s account was “extremely stupid” and that a permanent social media ban should only apply to bot accounts or accounts that spread spam. Musk also pledged to simplify the platform’s moderation mechanism if it succeeds in acquiring Twitter.
Twitter was originally one of Trump’s main venues during his tenure, and his account had more than 88 million followers. In January 2021, after Trump’s supporters violently broke into the U.S. Capitol causing riots, social networking platforms such as Twitter have successively announced that Trump’s account will be permanently banned.
However, according to previous reports, Trump has said that even if his Twitter account is restored, he will not return to Twitter, but will continue to use his self-built social platform “Truth Social”.
