Musumeci’s doubts about the Recovery Plan “There are no works we need”

by admin

The President of the Region met the Minister for the South and Territorial Cohesion, Mara Carfagna, at Palazzo d’Orleans

PALERMO «With Minister Carfagna we had the opportunity to discuss some priorities related to the development of the South and in particular to the rational use of the FSC funds and the works included in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. In any case it is a departure station because the needs are many and not all of them have been satisfied in terms of programming ».

BRIDGE: CARFAGNA SAYS YES

This was stated by the president of the Sicilian Region, Nello Musumeci, on the sidelines of the meeting with the Minister for the South and Territorial Cohesion, Mara Carfagna, at Palazzo d’Orleans.

«We are working at a good pace – added Musumeci – we have already drawn up a list of the most important projects. But the strategic works that our land essentially needs are unfortunately not included in the National Plan, nor can they be for the time frame provided for by European legislation. But we continue to insist that the Ministry of the Environment and Infrastructure be able to open a table to allow Sicily to equip itself with those infrastructures that make it the central platform of the Mediterranean ».

Mara Carfagna, however, explained the PNRR from another point of view: “In the PNRR – she said – there are interventions for 266 million euros for Sicilian ports, I hope to be able to strengthen above all the port of Augusta because that must be the port of the Mediterranean from which to enter Italy and Europe. I guaranteed President Musumeci an attentive and helpful conversation – continued the Minister for the South -. Sicily can be a highly competitive region in all sectors, from tourism to agri-food, from culture to renewable energy. It does not fear competitors, it just needs to be put in a position to express its full potential and I want to use my time in the government to help Sicily do so ».

“There is a lot of talk about landings – added Carfagna – but when I hear about landings, I think of trade, the trafficking of goods, of raw materials which must then see the consolidated infrastructure and the Zes strategy to which I worked by allocating a line of specific loan, amounting to 630 million euros, of which 111 for Sicily ».

“I fought for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan to allocate significant sums to the South – he said – and I am well aware of the role that Sicily must play to become Italy’s logistical platform within the Mediterranean. It represents the pivot of a strategy to relaunch the Italian Mediterranean vocation and must be able to intercept the commercial and tourist exchanges that concern the South ».
