BMW expands the 5 Series offering with the new Touring family variant which for the first time is also offered in a battery-powered version called i5 Touring. The station wagon features the same clean lines as the sedan as well as a much more pronounced front grille which will be offered with optional BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. Behind, the slightly sloping roof stands out. Both 18 and 19-inch alloy wheels are available as standard or 21-inch ones as an option.
Three different customization packages for the Touring
The new 5 Series Touring can be requested in the M Sport, M Sport Pro and M Carbon Exterior packages. In terms of dimensions, the model is 97mm longer, 32mm wider and 17mm taller than its predecessor. The wheelbase also grew by 0.8 inches. Moving inside, the Touring’s interior features the solutions of the sedan with a curved display with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel plus a 14.9-inch infotainment system.
The trunk has a total capacity of 1,700 litres
As with the sedan, the operating system is BMW 8.5 which supports video streaming and AirConsole games. Compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is also expected. The new Touring is equipped with sports seats and a new steering wheel with a flatter bottom. The model is also more responsible as it features a fully vegan interior as standard. The basic trunk offers up to 570 liters, but can reach 1,700 liters by folding all the rear seats.
For the first time it’s electric
An assortment of options will be available for the new 5 Series Touring including a panoramic glass roof and BMW Individual Merino leather. You can also request both a Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system with 18 speakers and a BMW Interaction Bar. The new station also includes the new electric i5 with an 81.2 kWh battery pack. The i5 eDrive40 Touring is powered by the rear engine that develops 340 hp and 430 Nm of torque.
The top electric version is the i5 M60 xDrive Touring
The model thus equipped accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and guarantees a range of up to 560 km. Better performance is available on the i5 M60 xDrive Touring which adds a dual-motor all-wheel drive system with 601 hp and 820 Nm of torque.
