Nordmeccanica builds the fourth factory in Piacenza

It is the fourth factory in the industrial center of Piacenza, a greenfield project worth 3 million euros in two years that will lead to 30 new hires. Nordmeccanica, the world‘s leading manufacturer of flexible packaging machines, inaugurates the post Covid season with an investment that will lead to an increase of 10% in organic and production.
The construction sites now start in the industrial area of ​​the city, where Nordmeccanica already operates on three other plants, the plant has already been authorized by the Municipality of Piacenza and the goal is to switch on the machinery at the beginning of 2022.

World market leader

The new site will be 3 thousand square meters, which are added to the 33 thousand square meters covered where the group controlled by the Cerciello family today builds patented technologies for flexible packaging, a niche in which it is the world market leader (with a 70% share), in particular laminating machines specialized in the combination of different materials, such as plastic films, paper, aluminum for the food & pharma sectors and the brand new “metallizing” machines, for the production of recyclable packaging, the green innovation of the sector that halves costs and the environmental impact compared to packaging with aluminum.

Positive marginality despite Covid

95% of the 100 million euro turnover archived last year (down by a few points despite the lockdown and with positive margins in any case) is exported and in addition to the Piacenza factories, Nordmeccanica can count on production facilities in China (Shanghai) and United (New York). “Covid has entailed considerable difficulties, especially logistical, but this has not prevented us from continuing our growth path, thanks also to investments in 4.0 technologies, which have allowed us to remotely assist customers all over the world when traveling was impossible. , and the transition to sustainable processes and products », explains Antonio Cerciello, president of Nordmeccanica, fresh from his appointment as Cavaliere della Repubblica. The new plant is the materialization of the ambitious growth objectives of the company, which already for 2021 foresees a return to the 110 million euros of pre-pandemic turnover, with a recruitment plan of 30 technicians and engineers, who from next year will go in addition to the approximately 300 current employees, one third of whom abroad.
