In a report published yesterday by the World Health Organization (WHO) it emerges that “future peaks are likely” of Covid infections linked to the emergence of the Omicron variant. “Given the mutations that can confer immune escape potential and possibly transmissibility advantage, the likelihood of potential further spread of Omicron globally is high,” the report reads. “Depending on these characteristics there could be future spikes of Covid-19, which could have serious consequences”, added the WHO which assesses the overall global risk related to the new Omicron as “very high”.
