A million travelers. In the second summer of Covid, the shipping company MSC Cruises moved this mass of people in Italy, making more than 400 calls in 14 ports in our country, where it employed 8 ships out of the 11 already returned to service after the lockdown, out of a total of 19 that currently make up its fleet. Foreign tourists on board were 40%.
Leonardo Massa, managing director of MSC Cruises: “We are very proud to have been the first company in the world to restart after the lockdown, in August 2020, and to have done so in Italy. And we are equally proud to have moved, even in a still difficult year like 2021, such a large number of cruise passengers, providing a precious contribution to the recovery of tourism in Italy and to support the territories and communities touched by our ships. These data also confirm the centrality of Italy for the international cruise sector trend. We have always been optimistic about the resumption of cruises, which today represent – thanks to the adoption of an extremely rigorous health and safety protocol – one of the safest and most rewarding holiday modes in the world ”.
