Outdoor teaching in an urban forest in the Milano-Bicocca project

by admin

MILAN (ITALPRESS) – An urban forest of two hectares for innovative teaching and outdoor research: this is the project of the new U10-Logos building of the University of Milano-Bicocca, of which the first stone was laid today . The construction will be built between viale dell’Informazione, via Stella Bianca, via Sesto San Giovanni and via Fubini, and will be ready by 2023. Next to the building, a bio-lake and educational amphitheaters will be born immersed in a plain wood where biodiversity will frame lectures, exams and events, as well as six floors of workshops, innovative classrooms and student accommodation. “Our university has always looked to the future” said the director of Milano-Bicocca, Giovanna Iannantuoni. “Today we are designing a new idea of sustainable education and research. We had already taken a step in this direction with the inauguration of the Bicocca nursery, an open-air research laboratory where students and citizens can experience the urban forest, but with the U10 we further underline the commitment of Milano-Bicocca to the design of the University of the future: open, sustainable and above all integrated into the environment. In this new building our students will be able to follow the lessons outdoors and do research directly in the laboratory spaces set up. outside. A choice that I define as courageous and that will change the face of our Campus “. Bicocca University “is a university that knows how to look to the future in a young and new way” commented the Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala. “The project of the U10 building, whose works are starting today, is a clear testimony of this. The idea of creating a space for training and research that is at the same time sustainable, technological, in dialogue with nature is far-sighted, as well as culturally stimulating for the young people who will attend it to study, do laboratory activities and who will stay here. Bicocca has long since made its values and the open challenges of environmental transition and sustainable development: with this innovative building it is confirmed capable to read the needs of our time and presents itself as a reference point and model for the urban development of Milan “. The project includes an urban forest of over 19 thousand square meters, almost two hectares of greenery, which will be functionally connected to the North Park thanks to flowering islands and the numerous green spaces that are emerging in the University and in the neighborhood. A smart, eco-sustainable and hi-tech space where you can experience the urban forest. Inside, two didactic amphitheaters and research laboratories will be built. Within the urban forest, there is also a completely sustainable bio-lake: a real call for biodiversity, from amphibians to dragonflies to migratory birds. The green space will also be open to citizens. Inside the U10-Logos, didactic classrooms with mobile furniture will be designed to allow greater flexibility, both for students and teachers, favoring innovative, more open and participatory teaching. “Sustainability, research and higher education: the pillars of the University are enclosed in the new urban forest inside the Bicocca, one of the most prestigious and educational universities at national and international level” declared the councilor of the University, Education, Research , Innovation and Simplification of the Lombardy Region Fabrizio Sala. The names of the buildings on the Campus were also presented today “The University is located in a neighborhood that has changed a lot over the years and has undergone many transformations. The idea of giving new names to the buildings” underlines Giampaolo Nuvolati, Vice Rector for Relations with the territory. “Alongside the numbers that distinguish them and remember their origin, it is meant to be an action to give identity to places and symbolic recognition to urban spaces. These names today want to underline Bicocca’s specificity in the multidisciplinary nature of its training offer, but also to remember the universal principles that must inspire an Athenaeum. To this end, we looked to Greek and Latin words, sources of humanistic and scientific knowledge, to turn to the future “. The names of two buildings, U9 and U17, will instead be chosen by the students from a range of proposals: Genius, Scientia and Koiné for the U9, Forum, Ipazia and Animus for the U17.
