«PrWould you ever forbid a boy to enter the classroom because he cannot afford to buy books? “asks Nicklevi, nickname of one of the boys who have partchallenged to create the best slogans for the initiative. To respond to one of the great social and educational emergencies exasperated by the pandemic, “Digital and Equal” debuts: the goal is to raise funds to give a computer to students who need it, to help overcome the delay in the digitization of our country. The project is promoted by the Gedi publishing group and by Yoox, in collaboration with the Golinelli Foundation and the Specchio d’Italia Onlus Foundation.

In recent days, a letter of appreciation has also arrived from the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella: “It is an initiative of high civic sense – wrote the Head of State to Maurizio Molinari, editorial director of Gedi – and, I am sure , highly effective, particularly at a time like this, marked by the pandemic, in which the lack of technology and the possibility of communicating at a distance risks accentuating or provoking marginalization ».

The www.digitalieguali.it platform is already active: through the site it is possible to contribute with donations for the purchase of PCs which will then be distributed to students of state and equal schools. And it is also possible for schools to report cases of need from tomorrow to 30 April and thus become the beneficiaries of computers. A commission will evaluate which applications to accept and will proceed with the assignment of the PCs on May 14th.

As Istat notes, one third of Italian families do not have a computer or tablet at home: 850,000 students, for this reason, cannot follow remote lessons in these months of pandemic and end up accumulating a very complicated educational gap to fill. “This is no longer sustainable for our country – says Federico Marchetti, Founder and President of Yoox Net-a-porter group -. Equipping every girl and boy with a technological tool can become the key to success for their future and for the future of Italy. Together with Gedi, the Golinelli Foundation and the Onlus Mirror Foundation, we share the same goal of helping to bridge the digital gap and not leaving anyone behind ».

“Digital and Equal – adds Maurizio Scanavino, CEO of Gedi – was born from the generosity of Federico and the other partners, but is aimed at everyone: through our publications and thanks to the Specchio d’Italia Foundation we will involve Italians in a solidarity competition special, where we can all win. Because helping every student to put his talent to good use not only contributes to making Italy more modern and innovative, but allows today’s children to be better citizens tomorrow, more active and involved in the civil and social life of the country ». “Digitali e Uguali” is gathering the support of personalities from different sectors, all involved in a video promoting the project: in addition to Maurizio Molinari, editorial directorand Gedi and director of Repubblica, and Massimo Giannini, director of La Stampa and editorial director of Gnn, there are Linus, Albertino, Fabio Volo, Marco Damilano, Luciana Littizzetto, Cristiana Capotondi, Chiara Francini, Selvaggia Lucarelli, Daria Bignardi, Eugenio Cesaro, Massimo Recalcati, Maurizio De Giovanni, Corrado Augias, Gabriele Corsi, Elisa Di Francisca, Federico Marchetti, Carla Signoris, Cesare cream-coloredtheyni.
