Porsche Taycan Turbo S: 2,500 km behind the wheel of the 625 hp electric

Charging anxiety is one of the main obstacles when buying an electric car. With a network of columns still unripe, the best solution is to be able to rely on a wallbox in your garage. But if you can’t rely on a home charging socket, is it possible to drive an electric car as if it were a thermal car? To answer this question, we drove 2,500 kilometers behind the wheel of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, (always in full compliance with the anti-covid Dpcm) flagship model of the Stuttgart electric. In the two weeks of testing, the 625 horsepower electric (761 with overboost) was recharged exclusively in publicly accessible charging points including the high-power sockets found in all Porsche dealerships around Italy. The decision to use the Taycan Turbo S to answer our question was linked to the very nature of the car: a GT capable of passing from the curbs of the track to the role of a family car for the holidays. In fact, the German sedan on the one hand ensures a dynamic and technical package capable of satisfying every sporting ambition of the driver, as confirmed by the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.8 seconds but above all a driving dynamics and driving pleasure at the height. of the coat of arms on the hood.

Overcoming the “noise” factor (the car is capable of producing a sporty sound but obviously it cannot be compared to themic engines), otherwise falling in love with the Taycan is very easy.

The reason? Based on the gas pressure and the step set on the throttle, you go from driving a “rocket” to driving a comfortable car perfect for every day despite the 22 “wheels. The two engines, one at the front and one at the rear, generate a total power of 625 horsepower (460 kW), powered by a 93.4 kWh lithium-ion battery with an 800-volt mains instead of the traditional 400 Volt. This ensures faster charging times but above all the possibility of introducing energy up to 270 kW. Having overcome the size rock, the almost 5 meters are not the best in the city, the Taycan has proved to be an excellent travel companion. On board we find the typical Porsche quality combined with a technology package that has a 16.8 “screen in front of the driver, two 10.9” touch screens in the center and in front of the passenger from which to manage the infotainment system and the settings of the cars and display from 8.4 ā€with feedback. Fingers aside, the lack of physical buttons is forgotten after a few minutes and you don’t need to learn the instruction manual to operate the car. Convenient voice assistant that can be activated with Hey Porsche, Apple CarPlay present but Android Auto is missing. Returning to the initial question of our test, in two weeks we understood the importance of having the right app to be able to recharge based on the column found. Added to this is the need for greater planning than thermal models, with the satellite navigator becoming a travel companion almost daily. On our Bologna Rome test drive, we stopped at the Ionity station in Valdichiana: here 80% of the charge is obtained in just over 20 minutes. However, the costs are important: with the consumption rate you pay 0.79 cents per kW. Overall we had an average consumption of 3.8 kW, with a maximum mileage of 385 km, against the approximately 400 declared. The price is a real Porsche: 205 thousand euros including accessories.
