Practical, elegant, sporty and spacious: the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer

by admin

Following the world premiere of the next generation Opel Astra 5-door in September, today Opel presented the highly anticipated station wagon, the all-new Opel Astra Sports Tourer. The new car will be available in two plug-in hybrid versions from the start of sales, and will therefore be the German manufacturer’s first electric station wagon. The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer also continues the Opel tradition of highly successful compact station wagons, which began almost 60 years ago with the Opel Kadett Caravan, the first vehicle of this type from a German brand.

In addition to electric drive, the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer will be available with highly efficient petrol and diesel engines. Power ranges from 81 kW (110 hp) to 96 kW (130 hp) in the petrol and diesel versions and reaches 165 kW (225 hp) of system power in the plug-in hybrid versions. The six-speed gearbox is available as standard in conjunction with the petrol and diesel engines, and the eight-speed automatic gearbox (electrified on the plug-in hybrid versions) is an option on the more powerful engines.

“The new Opel Astra Sports Tourer symbolizes a new era – electric, digital and designed to thrill,” said Uwe Hochgeschurtz, Opel CEO. “In this way, the very long tradition of our compact station wagons is combined with the latest innovations such as plug-in hybrid technology. We are sure that Opel will win new customers with the fantastic Astra Sports Tourer ”.

The practical Opel Astra Sports Tourer measures 4,642 x 1,860 x 1,480 mm (length x width x height) and with a load sill height of around 600 mm, further strengthens Opel’s reputation in the station wagon market sector and also demonstrates the typical ability of the brand to create efficient architectures. Despite the wheelbase of 2,732 mm, significantly longer (+ 70 mm) than the previous model, and 57 mm higher than the new Opel Astra 5-door, the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer is 60 mm shorter than the model that it replaces, thanks to a particularly reduced front overhang

A very flexible trunk: the “Intelli-Space” moving floor

The trunk of the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer offers a volume of more than 608 liters with the rear seats in place, and reaches an impressive 1,634 liters with the rear seats folded down – plenty of space to comfortably load, for example, a carrier for a large dog. average. When the separately folding rear seats (standard in 40:20:40 configuration) are folded down, the load floor is completely flat. Even with the lithium-ion battery positioned under the floor, the plug-in hybrid versions offer a more than respectable load volume of 548 l and 1,574 l.
