Prysmian welcomes the European Commission’s decision to impose anti-dumping duties on imports of fiber optic cables from China. This is learned in a note from the Italian group active in the sector of cable systems for energy and telecommunications. The European Commission has decided to impose anti-dumping duties between 19.7% and 44% on imports of fiber optic cables from China. The heavily subsidized Chinese optical cable industry has benefited from an unfair competitive advantage which has allowed it to significantly increase exports to the EU at significantly lower prices in recent years.

“We welcome the decision of the European Commission, and it is reassuring to see that Europe is able to act vigorously against unfair practices,” commented Philippe Vanhille, EVP Telecom Division at Prysmian Group. “Fair competition must be ensured in the interest of our customers and all interested parties, to ensure that quality components for the construction of the European optical infrastructure are available in a sustainable way.” “We believe it is important to maintain high quality standards in the optical segment, so as to ensure faster and more stable optical networks, and efficient and environmentally friendly installations at lower operating costs and longer life,” continued Vanhille. “Only in this way will we ensure that the integrity of the network infrastructure is ensured, that stability is increased across all bandwidths and that the system is open to future evolutions.”
