It may seem like a small story, but to make the whole world “green” you have to do it like this, one piece at a time. The Municipality of Anzola dell’Emilia, in the metropolitan city of Bologna, had a complete energy check-up carried out, followed by structural interventions, by Rekeep SpA, leader of the main Italian group active in integrated facility management, to become a virtuous example in terms of consumption and emissions, through an important plan of energy requalification of public buildings and public lighting. The plan, worth 1.6 million euros, which will not weigh on the coffers of the Municipality but which will be fully supported by Rekeep, will start in September and will allow a 25.74% cut in energy consumption, a reduction in emissions in the atmosphere equal to 354,171 kg of CO2 per year thanks to new public lighting and more efficient and comfortable municipal buildings from the climatic and acoustic point of view.
The new contract for the management and maintenance of public lighting and the thermal and electrical energy systems of municipal buildings, with an annual value of approximately 800 thousand euros for a duration of 15 years, was awarded to Rekeep by the Municipality of Anzola dell’Emilia with the formula of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP): a contractual solution available to the Public Administrations that allows the Municipality to ensure, against the same historical cost for the two services, redevelopment interventions, which will be fully borne by Rekeep, for 1 , 6 million euros, in addition to financial charges. In fact, Rekeep will manage the lighting and energy systems for the next 15 years and will return to the initial investment thanks to the greater efficiency guaranteed by the redevelopment interventions that will affect a total of 15 municipal buildings, largely schools, starting from September 2021. , until April 2023.
The annual savings that will be obtained thanks to the efficiency measures will be equal to 196.6 TOE / year, or what would be obtained by switching off about 159 apartment boilers per year, while in environmental terms the lower CO2 emissions into the atmosphere will have for the air of Anzola dell’Emilia a benefit equal to what would be obtained by planting 505 new trees. And then nothing comes of doing this too.
Rekeep thus confirms its expertise in the energy efficiency sector; the virtuous example could be replicated in the many small and medium-sized municipalities of our country, as evidenced by the research carried out by the Nomisma economic studies company entitled “A Green New Deal on public real estate: new economies and ecosystem effects”, a overall program of energy and seismic redevelopment interventions on public administration assets could constitute a concrete, sustainable and virtuous energy transition solution to give our country a solid prospect of recovery and development, with positive effects in terms of GDP, employment, reduction of emissions and energy consumption. Public buildings are, in fact, among the most energy-intensive buildings: their redevelopment could not only make Italy take a big step forward in terms of efficiency and environmental sustainability, but would also make it possible to increase internal comfort, reduce consumption and therefore costs and introducing an appreciable urban redevelopment.
