Renault takes the field in the race for the batteries. Two partnerships are underway

by admin

The battle to catch up in the world of electric car batteries is now in full swing. And Europe, separated by an abyss in the race with Asian competitors, is showing signs of awakening. The Renault group has signed two partnerships in the field of design and production of batteries for electric vehicles, with the aim of putting France at the center of the “Renaulution” road map, the strategic plan announced at the beginning of the year. In particular, Renault has started a collaboration with Envision Aesc for the creation of a gigafactory in Douai, near Renault ElectriCity, to support the production of the latest generation, cost-competitive and low-carbon batteries, to make electric mobility most accessible in Europe. Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the French start-up Verkor to co-develop and then produce high-performance batteries, with the aim of reaching a stake of more than 20% in Verkor. The two partnerships, together with the business of the Renault ElectriCity industrial hub, will help create nearly 4,500 direct jobs in France by 2030, while developing a robust battery manufacturing ecosystem in the heart of Europe.

The partnerships with Envision Aesc and Verkor “significantly strengthen our position and allow us to guarantee the production of one million electric vehicles in Europe by 2030”, said Luca de Meo, CEO of the Renault group, underlining that “it is about a milestone, as we strengthen our competitive advantage by leveraging the momentum of the French industry and trying to reach our carbon neutrality goals ”. The group, said de Meo, “thus reaffirms its desire to produce popular, accessible and affordable electric cars in France”.
