Reshape the web: digital turning point and Pnrr for the relaunch of Italy

by admin

Looking to the future of the New Normal, bridging the all-Italian digital delays, grasping the challenges of the NRP by investing in digital infrastructure and skills. “Reshape the web” is the title of the event organized by Sole 24 Ore on the occasion of the presentation of the new digital home page of the newspaper, an event dedicated to the technological transition and followed by 4,300 connected users. The major issues still open on the agenda, from regulation to artificial intelligence to reach the impact on employment and the world of work.

«It is a question of directing these extraordinary resources that Europe has put in place – summarizes Paolo Gentiloni, EU Commissioner for the Economy – on the one hand in increasing the competitiveness of businesses, of our systems, of research, of human capital. Secondly to modernize our public administrations ». The challenge, adds Gentiloni, “is to try to make progress in common by bringing together the resources of different European countries on what are the frontier challenges of innovation, because it is not certain that the delay we have on large platforms should then be replicated in the technologies of the future. We have all the conditions to be more competitive than we have been over the years compared to Google or Facebook ». Therefore, a great work of reflection is underway that refers to the debate underway in Europe, an area that boasts an entirely cultural leadership in terms of the governance tools of the network and the protection of rights in the face of the technological leadership that is American and Chinese.

In the foreground, the applications of artificial intelligence on which Roberto Viola, general manager of DG Connect at the European Commission, spoke. «A week ago – Viola points out – we presented the first world regulation on artificial intelligence, accompanied by a multimillion-dollar investment plan. There are two ecosystems on the ground, that of citizens’ trust and rules and that of investments, which must work together. We have put together a series of rules that will now have to be discussed, it is a contribution not only to Europe but to the whole world in favor of an awareness of the limits to be applied ». Artificial intelligence and Blockchain are two of the main implications of the technological revolution. And Italy, as Francesco Loriga, IBSI coordinator tells us, “is working on experimenting with a platform that unites public and private sectors”.

The analysis of the new president of the CNR, Maria Chiara Carrozza, is clear: Italy is at the beginning of a turning point, it is facing a very heavy economic crisis after the pandemic, with epochal challenges on the agenda. An exhausted Italy, “which must be helped and saved through research” he stresses.

Companies in a context of strong change must rush. The rector of the Politecnico di Milano Ferruccio Resta underlines this: «The pandemic has been an accelerator of technological and digital transformations. Services and products are changing – he says – but above all companies must guarantee an ever greater connection thanks to the growing computing power and the potential of 5G, to meet customer needs. This is true for manufacturing but also for public administration and health care ».
