Asus launched the ROG Phone 5 lineup last March, so it’s long overdue for us to see their latest gaming smartphone.

Well, the company launched the ROG Phone 6 series on Tuesday (5th), which is the first smartphone in Malaysia to be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.

The ROG Phone 6 series has a base model in two configurations, as well as a higher-spec ROG Phone 6 Pro.

The ROG Phone 6 is available in Phantom Black or Storm White, while the ROG Phone 6 Pro is only available in Storm White, and here’s how they’ll cost:

  • ROG Phone 6, 12GB RAM, 256GB – RM3599
  • ROG Phone 6, 16GB RAM, 512GB – RM4399
  • ROG Phone 6 Pro, 18GB RAM, 512GB– RM4999

The public can pre-order the ROG Phone 6 series from Wednesday (6th) through the official online store set up by ASUS on Shopee and retail partners across the country.

The ROG Phone 6 will go on sale in August, while the ROG Phone 6 Pro will go on sale in September. If you pre-order them, you’ll get freebies worth up to RM548.

These include a one-year warranty extension, as well as the new AeroActive Cooler 6, which is normally priced at RM349.

Additionally, if you pre-order the ROG Phone 6 on Shopee, you will also get the ROG Slash Hip Pack and ROG Slash Crossover Backpack, which retail for RM499 and RM399 respectively.

If you’ve used any of the ROG gaming phones before, you can expect to see gamer aesthetics and large size on the ROG Phone 6.

This means that the phone uses a 6.78-inch FHD+AMOLED screen, a 165Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time.

They also feature a 720Hz touch sampling rate, 23ms touch latency and support for HDR10+ certification.

The screen has a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, covers 111.23% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, Delta E average

There is also a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the screen, which can prevent flowers.

Meanwhile, on the back of the phone, you’ll notice the ROG Phone 6 series has an edgy look and full RGB lighting.

The back of the body is also the first difference between the ROG Phone 6 and the ROG Phone 6 Pro.

The ROG Phone 6 has a glowing ROG logo on the back, while the ROG Phone 6 Pro has a ROG Vision color PMOLED display that you can customize to show different things while using and playing the ROG Phone 6 Pro.

There’s also a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the back of the entire device to prevent scratches.

They weigh 239 grams and are 10.3mm thick.

ROG Phoe 6 series is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+Gen processor, ROG Phone 6 is equipped with 12GB or 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, and ROG Phone 6 Pro is equipped with 18GB LPDDR5 RAM.

They both come with 512GB UFS 3.1; they feature a Gamecool 6 cooling system. The ROG Phone 6 series will come with Android 12-based ROG UI and Zen UI.

However, Asus only guarantees at least two major Android OS upgrades and two years of security updates, when you see companies like Samsung on their flagship devices guaranteeing up to four major OS upgrades When upgrading, you may feel unhappy.

As you might expect, the camera lens isn’t the main focus of the ROG Phone 6, but the phone still has a triple-camera setup on the rear, including a 50MP main camera (with a Sony IMX766 sensor), a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 5MP macro lens.

It has a front 12MP selfie lens (with Sony IMX663 sensor).

The ROG Phone 6 series has a built-in 6000mAh battery (composed of two 3000mAh batteries). They support 65W charging, which Asus claims can go from 0% to 100% in just 42 minutes, and it’s unbelievable that there’s a charger in the box.

The ROG Phone 6 series has 2 USB-C charging ports, one on the bottom of the device and the other on the side of the device. The USB-C port on the side supports HDMI output.

The series features IPX4 water resistance, front-facing stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack, and supports Snapdragon Sound wireless audio.

They also have an in-display fingerprint sensor, support for NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G, and WiFi 6E.

The ROG Phone 6 series also has a ton of gaming-focused features. They come with Asus’ Armoury Crate and Game Genie software, allowing you to tailor performance modes to your usage, as well as operate extra buttons like AirTriggers.

Asus says the new AirTrigger 6 has better sensitivity, motion control sensors, and gyro aiming.

The ROG Phone 6 series has a bunch of optional accessories. First up is the new AeroActive Cooler 6, which you connect to the back of the ROG Phone 6 via a USB-C port on the side, and it works with wireless charging.

You can choose to just use the AeroActive Cooler 6’s fan, or use the Peltier cooling chip in the heatsink for extra cooling.

You can also use an external power supply to increase the cooling of the Peltier chip, which can drop the temperature down to 8°C. AeroActive Cooler 6 also has four physical buttons, allowing users to perform more operations in the game.

In addition, the ROG Phone 6 series also has the ROG Kunai 3 gamepad for more console-like gaming experience.

You’ll get the controller and a case made for the ROG Phone 6, allowing you to swipe the controller like you would with a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con.

Alternatively, you can mount the ROG Kunai 3 on the included handle and connect it wirelessly to the ROG Phone 6 for an experience more similar to using an Xbox controller.
