He was the man who helmed Royal Caribbean, the Miami-based shipping company of Norwegian-US extraction, in the modern age of cruising. A sector where his company now manages the second largest fleet in the world and controls over 25% of the market. Richard Fain, current CEO, has chosen to take a step back and is preparing to step down. On January 3, it will hand over the deliveries to Jason Liberty, current CFO.
Fain, who will remain on the Board of Directors, can boast a very long militancy. According to the company’s note, he is the third longest-serving CEO of the select club of companies included in the S&P 500 index. In fact, he has been at the helm of Royal Caribbeen Cruises since 1988. Born in 1947, graduated in Economics from the University of California, a master’s degree in business administration at the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School of Business), married, father of four, grandfather of seven grandchildren, the manager previously worked at Indiana University International Corporation and Gotaas Larsen Shipping Corp ..
As for Liberty, he joined the Royal Caribbean Group in 2005 and held various financial, strategic and operational roles before becoming CFO in 2013. The manager is also responsible for Silversea Cruises, the group’s joint ventures with TUI Cruises and Hapag Lloyd Cruises, as well as the strategy, technology, supply chain, port operations and legal functions of the Royal Caribbean Group, to which the company belongs.
His CFO will be taken by Naftali Holtz, who is currently Senior Vice President of Finance for the Royal Caribbean Group, responsible for business planning and analysis, capital and revenue, implementation planning, risk management and of the treasury.
