Saipem focuses on floating wind turbines

by admin

Saipem is increasingly focusing on alternative energies, from which three quarters of its orders now arrive. As part of the energy transition strategy, yesterday the Italian group signed with Naval Energies, a subsidiary of Naval Group, an agreement for the acquisition of Naval Energies’ activities in the floating wind energy sector, i.e. wind turbines placed on floating structures in sea. The acquisition concerns engineering know-how, intellectual property rights and about thirty technicians with modeling and simulation skills.

This operation has a completely marginal impact on the financial position of the Saipem group.

Saipem has been present in France since 2002 through the subsidiaries Saipem SA and Sofresid Engineering SA. The company is already a leading player in the renewable energy business through the New Energies business unit of the E&C Offshore Division.

Mauro Piasere, head of Saipem’s Offshore New Energies Business Unit, commented: “With this acquisition we are expanding our technology portfolio and positioning Saipem in the tender for the award of the Groix & Belle-Île floating offshore wind project in France. , for which we will focus on our recognized ability to execute turnkey projects, at the service of EOLFI. The know-how we acquire consolidates our position in the offshore renewable energy market ”.

Saipem is a leading company in engineering, drilling and construction of large projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors. It is present in more than 60 countries around the world and employs 32,000 people of 130 nationalities.
