Salone del Mobile: Luti resigns as chairman. Milan hoteliers on the alert for the feared cancellation

by admin

Claudio Luti resigns from the Presidency of the Salone del Mobile. The manager announces it in a note. “The willingness on the part of the companies to give up participating in the September show was highlighted, making it difficult to create a quality event, representative of the sector as a whole. The different global vision of the Sector is the motivation ”for the resignation on the eve of the Board of Directors of Federlegno Arredo Eventi, which he did not attend having given up his mandate before the meeting.
Meanwhile, there is an alarm from the hoteliers in Milan for the increasingly insistent rumors about a possible cancellation of the Salone del Mobile in Milan again this year. Already postponed from April to September, it could now be postponed even to 2022. The leaders of the Salone and FederlegnoArredo (the industrial association that owns the event) have however officially denied the press rumors released yesterday on the Affaritaliani.it website, which also spoke of an earthquake at the top, with the possible resignation of the president of the Salone Claudio Luti.

FederlegnoArredo’s denial

The note from FederlegnoArredo Eventi specifies that “the board of directors has not yet taken any decision regarding the development of the 2021 edition”, and denies “the news published today in some press organs”. The board is expected to meet closely, however, and a decision is likely to be made by the weekend.

Also because, as Claudio Luti himself said a month ago, asking the government for guarantees on the reopening of fairs, by April it is necessary to give companies a definitive word – yes or no – because companies need time to organize the possible participation in the Exhibition. It is in fact the main international showcase for the furniture-design sector, which requires important investments from exhibitors to be present in an adequate manner.

The government’s response arrived, with the indication of June 15 as the date for the reopening of the trade fairs and a series of meetings that, in recent days, the same leaders of the Show had defined very positive and in line with their requests.

The uncertainties

However, the uncertainties still linked to the pandemic leave some exhibitors perplexed, fearful that a reduced presence of the international public (generally two thirds of visitors) could frustrate the efforts made. At the same time, the importance of this event for the wood-furniture supply chain, but also for all the related activities connected to it, makes the decision for a further shift very difficult to take.
