TURIN. «The Turin Movement must reorganize itself, create a ruling class. And starting from the assemblies in the neighborhoods with the citizens to involve them in institutional life ». Valentina Sganga, 35, was the M5S candidate in the race for mayor. In the last 5 years he has been the parent company, holding a majority that was in danger of breaking down due to internal tensions. A few days ago she returned to the City Council, for the first time in the opposite part of the classroom.
Debut in the opposition. What effect does it have?
«The Red Room made an impression on me: it is the same, but completely new for those who make it up. There is some regret for how the elections went, but new experiences are always stimulating ».
With the current majority you share many elements, but you are in opposition, together with political forces with whom the distance on some issues is sidereal. What balance to keep?
“We are three M5S advisers who move in a bipolar system. We need to define the institutional identity that we will have in the Council. We are light years away from the other oppositions from which we want to differentiate: what I saw the other day in the Senate on the Zan bill in Turin I don’t want to see. We have nothing to do with that right. With the center left there is a certain commonality on the issues, but we want to have a non-overlapping identity. We will do it with radical positions, for example on the environment ».
What to do in these five years?
«Safeguard what has been done and look forward. By opposing we will have more time to stay in the neighborhoods, to collect the requests of the citizens. We saw in the elections the disintegration between people and politics: dialogue must be recovered. We can do it”.
Ambitious idea. How do you want to make it?
“I would like to work at public assemblies in the various neighborhoods, including citizens in the debate. And above all by trying to involve women, young people, people with disabilities and foreigners: all the people that history and the economy have marginalized ».
In the meantime, the Movement must reorganize itself. Even in Turin?
“We lost votes because those who supported us didn’t go to vote and didn’t go to vote for us. Rebuilding a dialogue with citizens is fundamental. To do this we must be present throughout the territory, with physical structures and a new party organization at the local level, with recognizable figures who operate with specific objectives. Then we must equip ourselves with a ruling class, to get to the next vote with capable and competent people ».
Will it be part of this new course?
“I hope so. The Movement must not make the mistake of abandoning people who have gained experience and skills. And it’s not just for me. “
Meanwhile, Mayor Lo Russo took office. Does the start convince you?
«On some things, yes, others not. I liked when at the forum organized two days ago by La Stampa he talked about zero land consumption: now he has to do it. I am uncertain about the junta: some councilors are overloaded with proxies, others have few ».
If you had supported him in the ballot maybe now you would be in the majority with a seat in the bargain. Repent of the choice?
«Having a department, or another role, without building a common path is not useful to the Movement or to the city. That’s okay ». –
