Compared to 23,293 companies linked to the world of catering active in Sicily in 2020, 837 have gone out of business. Of the 837 companies that went out of business in 2020 are: 71 those of capital, 137 of persons and 627 sole proprietorships. As for the bars, 361 businesses that have closed their doors (25 joint stock companies, 63 of persons and 273 sole proprietorships). There are 472 restaurants and mobile catering businesses that have closed down (43 joint stock companies, 72 of persons, 355 sole proprietorships). With reference to canteens and catering, the birth-mortality ratio is equal to -4 (3 joint-stock companies and 2 persons have gone out of business while a new sole proprietorship was born).

“The companies in the supply chain agree in affirming – says Pistorio – that the sector will close 2021 with a negative result compared to the pre-Covid levels of 2019. In particular, most of the interviewees (55%) believe that the evolution expected for 2021 will be approximately -20% compared to 2019 ».

Among the curiosities that emerge from the Fipe report, the price of a cup of coffee equal to 0.81 euros in Messina and 0.98 in Palermo, against 1.04 in Alessandria, 1.05 in Cagliari and 1. , 10 of Ferrara and Vicenza. The price of the cappuccino is 1.40 euros in Messina and 1.55 in Palermo against 1.31 in Alessandria, 1.25 in Cagliari and 1.41 in Ferrara. The sandwich at the bar costs 2.26 euros in Messina and 2.79 in Palermo against 3.52 in Alessandria, 2.96 in Cagliari and 2.04 in Ferrara. Finally, the price of the meal (pizza + drink) in a pizzeria: 9.14 euros in Messina, 10.80 in Palermo against 9.07 in Alessandria, 8.79 in Cagliari and 9.58 in Ferrara.
