MILANO – Sky Italia launches a maxi redundancy plan that concerns just under a quarter of its staff. The media group led by Maximo Ibarra illustrated a document to the unions that provides for 2,500 / 3,000 exits out of 11 thousand employees (5 thousand direct and 6 thousand indirect) who report to the company. However, the exits will be implemented to tend in four years without resorting to layoffs.

The outgoings will affect both internal personnel, equal to 5,000 units and external personnel, which amount to approximately 6,000 employees, and should lead to savings of 300 million euros.

The reaction of the trade unions against the group controlled by the American Comcast was immediate, also because this may not be the last restructuring of the staff.

“It is a plan that we can try to manage with a view to social compatibility, also because it has been diluted over time, over four years – explains Pierpaolo Mischi, national secretary of Uilcom Uil – I am more concerned about any implications of the issue of football TV rights, with possible further negative impacts on employment “.

In this case, explains the trade unionist, “as said by the CEO Ibarra, there could be an update of the plan and this could involve some risk, even if the CEO confirmed that it should always be managed in continuity with the current one, according to criteria of social sustainability “.
