The tech giant employs around 140,000 people worldwide and it is expected that in the near future 60 percent of its employees will go to the office for only a couple of days a week, while 20 percent will be relocated to new locations. . The remaining 20 percent will work entirely from home, and these employees will therefore be able to independently choose which city to live in.
With the introduction of new ways of working, accelerated by Covid, “More and more employees are considering the idea of choosing where to live and work,” a Google spokesperson told AFP.
Hence the idea of adjusting wages based on the cost of living, with higher salaries for those who live in large cities and lower wages for those who, for example, choose to settle in a rural area. Employees are given the opportunity to calculate in advance the amount of the compensation by entering their place of work thanks to the tools of Google Careers, which take into account various parameters, giving a rough estimate of the average expenses.
