Snam aims to install the first hydrogen network in Italy by 2030 by converting existing gas pipelines. In detail, Snam’s new 2021-2025 plan with a vision by 2030 indicates the “repurposing” of 2,700 km of network from Mazara del Vallo to Passo Gries and Tarvisio for the transport of hydrogen from Italy to the areas of Northern Europe with greater demand . It will be the first step to allow exports to Northern Europe, in particular to Germany. This conversion will take place through repurposing of existing infrastructures and construction of new lines. In addition, Snam announced in recent days an agreement with Eni for the acquisition of 49.9% of the shares held by Eni in the two companies (TTPC and TMPC) that manage the gas pipelines that connect Algeria to Italy through the Tunisia and the Mediterranean.
