MELFI. One thousand of the approximately seven thousand workers at the Stellantis plant in Melfi (Potenza) will be placed on layoffs from today until June 27: the unions announced this after a meeting with the company. The decision was made due to the “continuing market crisis”. It has also been decided that the factory where Jeep Renegade and Compass and 500X are produced will be closed for holidays from 9 to 29 August.

The meeting between the managers of the Lucanian plant of Stellantis and Fim, Uilm, Fismic, Ugl and Aqcf of the RSA of the factory took place last Friday. The unions underlined the “dramatic situation of lack of working days especially on the line of the Jeep Renedage and 500X, while for the Compass the situation is less marked”, but in addition to the market crisis, the lack of semi-conductors had an impact. “Which is heavily penalizing the entire automotive sector”.

The unions explained that they had obtained a “timetable of stops for June which, unlike May, provides for a more equitable distribution on all shifts collectively and in addition the single stops will be exclusively on the first shift”. While waiting for the meeting with the company which should take place in Turin at the beginning of June – considered very important for the future of the Melfi factory – the unions said they were aware that “there will still be dark periods due to the pandemic and of the world crisis in the auto and semiconductor market ».
