Sudan’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Jibril Ibrahim Mohamed, thanked the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for its role and support to the country during the last agricultural season by providing improved seeds as well as Agricultural report to assess wheat production in Sudan, released March 19. This occurred on Wednesday during a meeting of the minister with Rein Poulsen, head of the FAO mission, who is visiting Sudan until Friday.

The minister stressed, however, that the FAO report does not cover all production areas of the country due to the war, and that actual production exceeds what is mentioned in the report, assuring that the real food gap is much lower than that spread by the media. He stated that there is no famine in Sudan, as there are no production problems, stressing that the main challenge is to distribute the production and deliver it to the needy in several regions, such as South Kordofan, where the government faces difficulties in providing safe food .

For his part, the head of the mission recalled the organization’s readiness to provide the necessary support for the next agricultural season and to provide greater technical support in the fields of investigations, evaluation and analysis of agricultural production.

At the end of the meeting, the Sudanese minister highlighted the need to provide technical support to Sudanese farmers in the field of vaccine supply in a timely manner in coordination with the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.
