The Granarolo group launches Sustainable Transition, an ecological transition program that involves all 633 members of the cooperative that controls the Spa. the environmental impact linked to milk production. The Granarolo supply chain will also focus on agriculture 4.0, on a more efficient management of energy and water sources in farms and on the circular economy.
In this process, the group, which processes 8.5 million quintals of milk, will be helped by the experts of the degree course in Sustainable Agricultural Systems of the University of Brescia, by the Veterinary Medicine department of the University of Milan and by that of Veterinary medical sciences of the University of Bologna. Granarolo confirmed its membership of the Dairy Sustainability Framework, an international platform that involves associations of large milk companies with the aim of accelerating action against climate change, starting with the reduction of greenhouse gases. «Our sector is called to give a strong response to the cry of our planet – said Gianpiero Calzolari, president of Granarolo Spa – it is no longer enough to work only on the transformation and distribution front, as we have done so far. The size of the supply chain and the capacity for innovation expressed by many of our members make us hope to be able to achieve the goal we set ourselves, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% for every kilo of milk produced by 2030 ” .
