Sustainable tourism, Milan joins the Gds-Index

The Chamber of Commerce announces Milan’s adhesion to the Global Destination Sustainability Index (Gds-Index), to enter the international program that measures the sustainability of tourist destinations. The announcement took place during the events on Sustainable Tourism promoted by the Milan Monza Brianza Lodi Chamber of Commerce at Palazzo Giureconsulti.

The Gds-Index (https://www.gds.earth/) includes cities such as Copenhagen, Brussels, Glasgow and Melbourne in the top 20 tourist destinations on the planet evaluated in 2021. Milan’s goal is to join the group of global cities for tourism sustainability in 2022.

For Elena Vasco, general secretary of the Milan Monza Brianza Lodi Chamber of Commerce, “Milan’s adhesion to the Gds-Index represents a further commitment for our community to implement concrete actions for sustainability, also in view of the appointment with Milan-Cortina Olympics of 2026 ». According to Luca Martinazzoli, general manager of Milano & Partners, «the development strategy of the city is clearly oriented towards sustainability and inclusion; joining the GDS represents a fundamental moment to achieve these objectives “.

During the initiative, some innovative solutions designed by startups in the tourism sector were presented. 10 new companies in particular committed to discovering innovative and eco-friendly solutions for the tourism, hospitality and mobility sectors: Bikeit, BusForFun, Butik, Digital Inphinity, E-Sea Sharing, Fair Bnb Network, Faroo, Farwill , LiberActa, Traveleco.

The common idea is to open a new perspective in the tourist experience, which starting from shared and low-emission mobility leads to the sustainable spread of pay for use and to accessible and inclusive tourism proposals.
