T-Mobile Launches 5G Home Internet Service in Puerto Rico: A Game Changer in Broadband Market

T-Mobile Enters Puerto Rico Home Broadband Market with 5G Home Internet

Telecommunications giant T-Mobile has officially entered the home broadband service market in Puerto Rico with the launch of its 5G Home Internet product. General Manager of T-Mobile in Puerto Rico, Jorge Martel, announced the exciting news, emphasizing the company’s commitment to bringing innovation, competitiveness, and excellent customer service to the internet segment in Puerto Rican homes.

The 5G Home Internet product, also known as “wireless fixed internet,” utilizes 5G technology to provide high-speed internet without the need for a cable connection. Each device supports up to 64 simultaneous wireless connections and only requires a socket and proximity to a window to optimize signal strength.

Initial speed tests of the 5G Home Internet connection point showed impressive speeds ranging from 450 to 490 megabytes, with average speeds estimated to be between 75 and 100 megabytes. Martel highlighted the affordability and convenience of the service, with a fixed monthly charge of $50 (including taxes) for self-pay customers with an existing voice line with T-Mobile.

While initially available only to existing customers or those who sign up for a voice line with the provider, Martel revealed that approximately 15% of Puerto Rico households are currently eligible for the service, a figure that is expected to increase rapidly.

T-Mobile’s entry into the Puerto Rico home broadband market comes following the company’s successful launch of high-speed internet service for the home in the United States. Martel expressed confidence in T-Mobile’s ability to meet the demand for both mobile and fixed services, thanks to the merger with Sprint that has provided access to more assets and spectrum to implement their 5G strategy.
