Minister Carfagna places the defining of the aquarium in favor of the Ferretti group on the agenda of the table of the institutional development contract

by Domenico Palmiotti

The table of the institutional development contract for Taranto is called today to dissolve the knot relating to the investment of the Ferretti group in the area of the former Belleli yard. It is a new plant for the construction of hulls for yachts with 200 direct employees and a use of 200 million euros between public and private resources. The Minister for the South, Mara Carfagna, who chairs the Table, has put on the agenda a proposal to define another project of the Cis Taranto (the aquarium with educational and research purposes), moving the 50 million already approved by the Cipe months ago partly on the contract for Ferretti (14 million) and the rest on other measures for Taranto. This is because the minister, after examining the project, deems the aquarium proposal not feasible and with uncertain repercussions.

Relocation risk

While there is an urgent need to secure, also from a financial point of view, the agreement with Ferretti, which has feared the renunciation of the investment in Taranto to transfer it abroad. Additional resources for Ferretti would serve the Mise. Both the Democratic Party and the M5S oppose the definition of the aquarium, asking to find the missing funds in another way. Forza Italia, on the other hand, is in favor of the final financing. The 50 million was made available to the Ministry of Culture and is part of a more comprehensive redevelopment of the former Mar Piccolo torpedo station left by the Navy to the Port Authority.
