Tourism and culture to restart. And in the main airport of Sardinia, Cagliari Elmas, the books arrive. For tourists and travelers but also simple readers. The initiative is entitled “Cagliari Airport Library”, and is wanted by Sogaer, the management company of the Sardinian airport, and is part of the program launched for some time that has the ambition to transform the airport and its spaces into “something more ”than a“ simple place of passage ”. The new library will be totally free and accessible to all and will allow the consultation of books in the reading areas, the loan and book sharing of a selection of works available to visitors.

the precedents in Amsterdam and Tallin

The space is also characterized by precious and “strongly identifying” furnishing elements, which recall the culture and artisan tradition of Sardinia. A large catalog is available both in Italian and in other languages. “This is a project born from seeing what is happening in other places – says Renato Branca, Sogaer CEO – and I am thinking of the Amsterdam airport or the closest to us in terms of size, Tallinn airport in Estonia”.

More integrated structure

Then there is the initiative of a project which, Branca reiterates, «born to expand the range of services offered by Cagliari Airport and aimed at making the experience of our passengers more and more pleasant, but also with the ambition to make the airport itself an increasingly integrated and functional structure to the territory and to the large airport community, not a mere point of arrival or departure, but also a place to stay “. There are also initiatives on the program: photographic exhibitions, readings, concerts and presentation of works by the authors.

Initiative of the Region and the Siotto Foundation

The initiative (supported by the Region and the Siotto Foundation) also looked positively by Alessio Quaranta, director general of ENAC who, after the “collapse linked to the pandemic”, speaks of small signs of grip. «Starting again is fundamental for all of us, to regain our normal life, work and socialization – he says -. Being able to do it in the company of a good book is an added value both for travelers, who can find in the library a service that improves the quality and experience of travel, and for all those who work in those microcosms that are airports, there they spend many hours of their day ».

Anthological exhibition on Leinardi

Visioni Concrete was also inaugurated for the occasion, the first major anthology on Ermanno Leinardi (who passed away in 2006) curated by Maria Dolores Picciau. The artist represented for the city of Cagliari and Sardinia a symbol of the aesthetic revolution carried out in the sixties and seventies by those avant-garde movements, megaphone for a renewal of language and aesthetic standards. Francesco Abate, journalist and writer: “a book is like a journey”.
