The bathing establishments are asking for rapid times for the reform of state-owned concessions

by admin

«The Government must immediately start the reform of state-owned concessions and not wait for the Council of State or the Court of Auditors to impose the legal and economic line. It would represent a defeat both for politics and for the business world ». This is the request of Marco Maurelli, president of Federbalneari Italia, made during the presentation of “Blue planet economy: european maritime forum 2021”, the first Italian exhibition event – organized by Fiera Roma and scheduled for next 7 and 8 October – dedicated to that innovative and sustainable business model that is the Blue Economy in a Euro-Mediterranean key. “Minister Garavaglia – continues the president – will have to immediately bring the reform of state concessions to the EU Commission, starting the planned implementation phase of the current extension law, which sets the expiry of state concessions to 2033, still incomplete today, before the plenary session of the Council of State of 20 October, which will have the task of deciding on the validity of the aforementioned law. The first element of novelty is represented by the «ecological transition to the seaside», that is the transformation of the beach tourism enterprise, from the point of view of planning that favors greener investments. Maurelli also recalls the urgency of achieving a reform of concession fees with greater balance than in 2006 and based solely on table values.

As for summer, this year 69% of Italians chose beach holidays, with an average duration of one week. One in two Italians chose the month of August, just over a third in July and 5% in September. Spending capacity averages -23% and has been put under pressure by the crisis and price increases. Tourist presences in Sardinia see a + 31% August over August 2020 and + 27% July; Puglia + 21%; Tuscany + 29%; Veneto + 38%; Lazio + 17%; Calabria + 25%. The data – Federbalneari Italia records – are also an improvement compared to those pre Covid, relating to summer 2019, especially by virtue of a drastic drop in the choice of foreign destinations by Italians.
