The Cls coupe sedan evolves and comes the lightweight hybrid

by admin

The Mercedes Cls is updated: with a restyling that focuses more on substance than on form. In fact, the German sedan-coupe comes with slightly updated garments and with fewer engines, but almost all mild-hybrids. The mid-career upgrade of the CLS originates a smaller family than in the past, but which takes advantage of advanced technologies recently adopted by other Mercedes.

Among the latter, the 48 Volt mild-hybrid stands out, which is based on a motor generator that brings additional powers of 20 and 22 horsepower together with pairs of 550 and 700 Nm, according to the engine. The turbodiesel units are the 265 horsepower 300d mild hybrid 2-liter four-cylinder and the 400d’s 330-horsepower 3-liter six-cylinder, which is the only non-electrified.

There are also two petrol engines, both 3-liter supercharged six-cylinder and mild-hybrid. One is intended for the 450 and develops 367 horsepower, while the other pushes the Amg 53 version by fielding 453 horsepower thanks to the restorative care defined by the brand of the Daimler group specialized in high-performance cars.

The latter also defined the new Race driving mode with Drift Mode. The aesthetic renewal is based on the dictates of the Amg style, which give the appearance and interior of the CLS a sportier personality. Externally, the kit borrowed from the Amg brand gives greater aggressiveness to the front and streamlines the silhouette even more.

The changes are concentrated at the front where the renewed grille and new air intakes stand out and is completed by redesigned bumper shields, new aerodynamic profiles and new color combinations. In the passenger compartment, the most important novelty is the capacitive steering wheel which recognizes when it is held by the driver without the driver having to signal it by hinting at a slight steering.
