The councilor for social policies: “Me in the streets to defend LGBTQ rights”

by admin

TURIN. Yesterday was the last day as a teacher at the Giordano Bruno high school. Today, as the first formal act of his department, he will participate in the demonstration against the rejection of the Zan bill. Jacopo Rosatelli, new councilor for Social Policies and Rights, is on leave as a tenured professor of Philosophy and History and is throwing himself headlong into studying all the most urgent dossiers to be addressed. Considered one of the new faces of Turin politics, in reality he has been dealing with social issues for 25 years and is now reaping the fruits of his commitment, convinced that he can interpret “a strong demand for ecological policies and social equality”.

Where do you start from for your mandate as councilor?

«As Councilor for Rights I will be in the square at the protest organized by the Torino Pride Coordination after the shameful rejection of the Zan bill. I show that as a councilor I will try to hold high the flag of Turin, the capital of civil rights and equal opportunity policies. I will also participate to make it clear that Turin is part of the Italy that wants to align itself with the other European countries, not the closed and backward one ».

How will it act, in practice?

“We will strengthen all civil rights and equal opportunities policies. We want to build an ever closer relationship of dialogue with all forms of association, both LGBTQ + and women and feminists. Turin must be at the forefront on a symbolic and practical level. We will invest in existing services and create others, trying to finance everything adequately ».

And how will it act on inequalities?

“I’m already working on the hottest dossiers, like the house. We will do everything we can to prevent people from being left homeless. We are well aware of the alarm from the tenants’ and confederal unions. And I’m picking up the dossier of resources that the City puts in place for the frailties and there is the problem of temporary workers engaged in social policies. We must reverse the trend of the precariousness of social work. To discuss issues related to inequalities, I will meet as soon as possible CGIL, CISL and UIL, the managers of the cooperatives and the representatives of the world of solidarity to co-design policies ».

Speaking of inequalities, can the Festival of Economics be an opportunity?

«Turin has an extraordinary history of socially oriented economic thought and it is also the city of Aurelio Peccei, a visionary manager who understood the epochal ecological crisis we were entering 50 years ago. Any reasoning on the economy must feed on the demand for solidarity and social justice but also for climate justice. The Festival will have to attack these issues ».

Usually his powers were entrusted to the Catholic world, why has this tradition been interrupted?

“It’s just a change of plans. I think that conceiving a councilorship for social and civil rights together is a great political message ”. –
