Currently, getting a job has become a true “technological war” marked by the intensive use of tools based on artificial intelligence (AI). The job search experience, which could once be considered a direct and personal challenge, has evolved into a competition dominated by bots capable of submitting hundreds of applications on behalf of candidates.

The race to stand out among thousands of applications has led job seekers to turn to AI services such as LazyApply, Massive, or WonsultingAI, which promise to automate the application process, presenting themselves as personalized and technologically advanced machines. These bots apply to a large number of job offers based on users’ profiles and preferences, which in theory could significantly increase the chances of being hired.

However, the effectiveness of these tools is debatable. In an investigation, a Business Insider journalist decided to put these services to the test and discovered a variety of results. Some bots like Sonara turned out to be less effective than expected, offering few work options and facing technical problems that limited their usefulness. Others, like LazyApply, while promising to apply to an astronomical number of jobs daily, introduced errors and incorrect data into the applications, which could seriously hurt a candidate’s chances in the job market.

Automated application services face criticism not only for their inconsistency but also because they dehumanize the job search process, turning it into a numbers game where quantity often takes precedence over quality. Human resources departments express discontent at not being able to distinguish between human-generated applications and those submitted by machines, further complicating the selection process.

While AI and job search bots represent a technological advancement with the potential to simplify certain aspects of the application process, they also pose serious challenges and limitations. Additionally, these bots don’t solve the fundamental problem of job searching: making personal connections and networking. Despite the promise of efficiency of these services, experience shows that personal recommendations and internal connections remain crucial to getting a job. In many cases, the most valuable opportunities arise from human encounters and relationships, something that no AI can fully replicate.
