The luxurious furnishings develop around the floating center console consisting of the 11.9 ”vertical touch display of the infotainment system. The dashboard supports the extensively configurable 12.3 ”instrument display, extending towards the passengers but without penalizing the amplitude of the interior, which is also generous at the rear. The hi-tech atmosphere is impressed by the inaction of physical switches, by the crowding of tactile buttons not always well intercepted on the new capacitive steering wheel and by the 2.0 version of the Mbux system.

The standard achieved by super-intelligence simplifies the dialogue with the virtual assistant and facilitates the management of on-board services. In addition, it brings three-dimensional images in the instrumentation, augmented reality in the head up display and interaction with home automation. But that’s not all because the AI ​​extends its range by managing the sophisticated LED front lights that can project potential dangerous situations onto the road, and the new optional Adas level 3 ready suite.

At the wheel of the C220d it doesn’t take long to notice the generational evolution of the Stuttgart midsize sedan. The sensation is aroused as much by the pleasantness of the environment in which one travels as by the balanced relationship between behavior and temperament. The result translates into an always pleasant handling. Among the curves of the hilly roads of our test from Rome to the Maremma, at the end of which we measured an average distance of 16.5 kilometers with a liter, agility and reliability brought out a brisk dynamism well matched to the performance of the engine. The latter is always fluid and correctly aligned with the set driving configuration, although sometimes influenced by the not very rapid interpretation of the situation by the nine-speed automatic transmission. The C220d proved to be confidential even in semi-assisted driving, thanks to the diligence with which the optional Adas network smoothly places the car in the right place on the road.
